Metaphysical Technology FAQ

What is Metaphysical Technology?

Metaphysical Technology is an emerging category of designed technologies, environments, methods, and frameworks that deliberately engage questions, experiences, or relationships traditionally treated as metaphysical and bring them into operational, observable, testable, or governed form.

This is the controlling definition used by this public category record. It defines the object of inquiry. It does not establish that metaphysical explanations are scientifically true.

Is Metaphysical Technology a scientific field?

Not as an established public status. The category can contain scientific research, instruments, experiments, and testable claims. It can also contain design, philosophy, art, first-person experience, and governance. The current record does not establish broad academic or scientific adoption.

Scientific claims inside the category must meet the standards of the relevant discipline. Category membership grants no scientific legitimacy.

Does it claim to prove the metaphysical?

No. A system can engage or operationalize a metaphysical question without resolving it. Measurement, participant experience, and model output do not automatically establish a metaphysical mechanism or explanation.

Does it require belief?

No. The classification test concerns design, material engagement, and operational, observable, testable, or governed form. A participant, investigator, or critic can examine a qualifying system without accepting its metaphysical interpretation.

What makes something part of the category?

All three conditions must be met:

  1. The subject is intentionally designed.
  2. It materially engages a metaphysical question, experience, or relationship.
  3. It gives some part of that engagement operational, observable, testable, or governed form.

Passing the test makes the subject eligible for documented classification. It does not prove that the subject works or that its claims are true.

What does “operational form” mean?

The engagement changes what the system does. It may shape inputs, procedures, thresholds, feedback, adaptations, decisions, or participant actions. The word describes a design function, not proof of an explanation.

What does “observable form” mean?

Some declared part of the engagement can be encountered or recorded through direct observation, instrument output, behavior, environmental change, or attributed participant report. Observation must remain separate from interpretation.

What does “testable form” mean?

A defined proposition can be examined under stated conditions and could be supported, limited, weakened, or disconfirmed by evidence. Testing the effects of a designed condition does not settle every possible meaning of the result.

What does “governed form” mean?

The system declares rules, authority, limits, consent, data handling, interpretation, intervention, stopping, accountability, or correction. Governance makes power visible and contestable. It does not make a metaphysical claim true.

Is Metaphysical Technology the same as spiritual technology?

No automatic equivalence is authorized. “Spiritual technology” is used in different ways and may imply a tradition, belief, practice, or metaphor. A subject enters Metaphysical Technology only when it passes the three-part classification test. The categories may overlap in a specific case.

Is it the same as consciousness technology?

No. “Consciousness technology” can refer to systems intended to measure, influence, or discuss consciousness. Metaphysical Technology is defined by deliberate engagement with a metaphysical question, experience, or relationship. Neural or consciousness-related function is neither required nor sufficient.

Is it the same as neurotechnology, biofeedback, immersive technology, or wellness technology?

No. Those may supply components, methods, or settings. None qualifies by name alone. A system may belong to one or more adjacent fields and still require a separate Metaphysical Technology classification decision.

Can art, ritual, or contemplative practice qualify?

Only when the subject is intentionally designed, materially engages the defining territory, and gives the engagement operational, observable, testable, or governed form. A practice, artwork, belief, or ritual does not qualify merely because it produces meaning or an unusual experience.

Does category membership mean a product is safe or effective?

No. Classification does not establish efficacy, safety, ethics, value, regulatory status, or professional qualification. Each claim requires evidence and oversight proportionate to its consequence.

What evidence supports the category?

The category definition is a declared public standard. It is not an empirical finding. Research can support narrower propositions, such as whether a designed condition changes a defined measurement or reported experience. Those findings do not automatically prove the category’s metaphysical interpretations.

See Claims and Evidence for the public claim and evidence map.

Who established this public category record?

Jason Antalek established this public category record and founded AkashaSync. The record defines and tests the category through published criteria, evidence boundaries, comparisons, articles, and machine-readable claims. Authorship does not establish universal adoption, scientific validation, or verified historical priority.

Is AkashaSync the category?

No. AkashaSync is an organization working within and shaping the category’s documented development. Metaphysical Technology is the category. Other organizations, researchers, artists, designers, communities, and critics may contribute if their work meets the definition and survives evidence-based review.

What remains unresolved?

Open questions include:

  • which specific products, practices, and frameworks qualify;
  • what evidence supports each inclusion;
  • where boundaries with adjacent fields should be drawn;
  • which origin and first-use claims can be verified;
  • which effects can be replicated;
  • which governance practices are necessary for different levels of risk;
  • whether the category gains independent public, academic, scientific, or industrial adoption.

Unknown is a valid status. The repository will preserve unresolved questions instead of converting them into claims.
